The Master's Letter

Greetings Brethren and Families,

At the April Regular we discussed Freemasons for Dummies by Hodapp. Dummies gives an overview of the history of Freemasonry, explains the general path a man will follow on his journey and is easy to read. It explains several misconceptions and busts several myths. It lists famous Masons, talks of conspiracies and hoaxes, and shines light on anti-Masonic efforts. Dummies is a good book, but not a great book. Dummies has neither suggestions for further reading nor footnote references to direct the reader.

The next book to be evaluated is American Freemasons: Three Centuries of Building Communities by Mark A. Tabbert. This book will be reported to lodge at the June Regular.

At the April Regular we also approved a rent increase for our usage of the Temple . A working group has been put together to develop recommendations for future options.

In March we raised 3 brothers to the sublime degree of a Master Mason. Congratulations to Marcus, Taurus and Tom. This is merely a beginning for each of you. The symbolism and lessons within the degrees are worthy of frequent study. We had several visiting brethren who came to honor Marcus at his raising. Thanks to all who attended and participated.

April was scheduled to be a multiple EA conferral month. We will have a MM degree conferral on May 21. Brother Night will be on May 14. Bob Blackburn, JW, will lead a discussion on the Grand Lodge Ireland .

The May Masters' Table will be at Pizza House at 618 Church St ; near U-M central campus, between South University and Hill Street . Their phone number is 995-5095. Nearby parking can be found at several parking structures.

On May 17 th there will be a family outing to the Michigan Firehouse Museum (michiganfirehousemuseum.org) at 110 W. Cross St. in Ypsilanti . We will assemble at 10 am. After the museum there will be a trip to nearby Depot Town for refreshment. All kids, both young and old, are invited to attend.

The Grand Lodge Annual Communication is scheduled for May 30 and 31. It will be held in the Scottish Rite Cathedral in the Detroit Masonic Temple . Accommodations are at the nearby Motor City Casino.

Check the trestleboard on our website www.aaf262.org for additional details on our scheduled events.

To those of you in sickness and distress, we wish you a peaceful heart and a speedy recovery.

Together we are the future of Masonry.

Sincerely and fraternally,

Stuart Berry, WM
